Visceral Manipulation & ScarWork

ScarWork in a gentle, non-invasive manual therapy used to improve the feel and appearance of all types of scar. Scars may cause numbness, discomfort, tightness or restricted movement; you may feel them unsightly and would like to improve their appearance.

Usually a course of treatment lasting several sessions will be recommended but many people feel an improvement after just one session.

What is Visceral Manipulation?

Visceral manipulation is a gentle, manual therapy used to help your internal organs (viscera) glide smoothly within your body. This technique can be used to treat abdominal pain, endometriosis, adhesions from surgery, Diastasis Recti and much more. The technique involves gentle compression and movement that may feel like pressure or stretching but is not painful.

Visceral Manipulation can be used to treat scars and more widespread visceral adhesions caused by surgery such as c-section, gall bladder removal, laparoscopy and ablation of endometriosis.. As a surgical scar heals, the connective tissue can start to bind with deeper tissues, creating restriction or pain that can extend far beyond the surgical site.

Visceral Manipulation is particularly effective in treating endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction and digestive issues such as GERD. Diastasis Recti can improve by up to 2-3 cm in a single treatment.

During your initial assessment Tracey will take a full medical history, assess your movement and perform a gentle examination of your visceral tone and motility. Treatment time usually lasts 30 minutes after which your symptoms will be re-assessed. Expect to feel a new freedom of movement, enhanced breathing and an improvement in abdominal congestion.

“I’ve recently had treatment from Tracey on my old hip replacement scar. My scar (which is about 6 years old & had healed well) but felt increasingly rather tight & bumpy under the skin. The massage was incredibly gentle & I hardly knew she was doing anything at all!! BUT the results have made a huge difference to that area. My scar no longer feels tight & lumpy and some feeling has returned to that side of my hip! Great results after only 3 short visits. Highly recommend this gentle scar treatment.”

“Following breast cancer surgery my scar tissue was really tight and restricting my arm and shoulder movements. Well, one scar massage later and I could reach my arm straight up, dress myself without pain, swim without restricted movements and most of the general tenderness in my breast has gone which has enabled me to sleep better. Wow! The massage didn’t hurt at all and Tracey showed me how I could do it myself. I highly recommend this service.”

“Working with Tracey has made a huge difference to my recovery and to my ongoing connection to my body.
When I first saw Tracey at Body Motion, I was exhausted, uncomfortable and hugely bloated after two significant abdominal surgeries. Tracey really paid attention to what I had to say and also to the story that my neglected body was telling. She incorporated visceral manipulation into my therapy. The difference was visible after just one session. As a result, my bloating and feeling of being congested internally altered hugely which made an enormous difference to how I was able to move.
By drawing on the impressive range of skills and techniques in her toolkit, Tracey continues ensure that I make good progress in every session.”
